Since the start of summer, I have been planning for us to go see the Seafair Pirates land on Alki Beach. Today was the day. The original plan was to take the water taxi, then the shuttle bus. The tricky thing about this is the parking on Seattle's side. Most parking is 2 hours, or very expensive. We figured this would take more than 2 hours, so we may as well just drive, and fight the traffic.
We got there just in time to get in line for the free pirate toys being handed out to the first 500 kids. Unfortunately, they weren't the eye-patch and cardboard hat I was expecting. Those were being passed out somewhere else. Instead, they had a choice of either a pirate water pistol, or a pirate sword. Ai-yai-yai!
We also scored a few bags of Pirate Booty. Tyler and I even got to spin a wheel and won a big bag of Smart Puffs. We got some free taffy, used a family-sized porta-potty, and the boys did some bouncing around. Tyler held up the line of big kids, as he tried to climb up to the top of the bouncy slide.
Though they were late, the Pirates did sail in and land on Alki. It wasn't an actual pirate ship, but they made it look like they were captured by the U.S. Army, riding in on an army boat.
The pirate in the red coat was the one Vincent went up to and got stickers from.
Though it was super crowded, and the kids complained a little, it was still a fun-filled, successful family outing, if you ask me. And, we all got our dose of vitamin D for the day, and we didn't spend a penny! ARRRRRRRR!!!!!
