Baby's got to get around somehow, right?

Rockin' Robin

Vincent has been singing Rockin' Robin a lot the past week. Luckily, this week I found a CD with the song on it. Now, Tyler's getting into the song, too.
I love that he even did a little eye-closing while moving his head back and forth. Once he stopped boppin' he just sat there, very introspective. It was kind of sad to see.

This morning, he ate his breakfast on the floor.

As for Vincent, he's been a bit tough with all this. He just doesn't understand that he needs to be careful around Tyler. It's a little stressful on David and I. *Sigh*

Looking on the Bright Side

Yeah, it was a long day following last night's visit to the ER.

But, check out one of Tyler's better moments today. He mowed down this seaweed.

And, since there was some sunshine in the afternoon, Vincent and I did a little planting of seeds. Here's our lineup of veggies to come. Some mesclun lettuces and carrots.
We also planted a pot of cat grass for Buster.

Our First Fracture

I can barely even remember the rest of our day, prior to 6:23pm.

I remember taking Tyler to City People's around 5pm to pick up some potting soil, then going to the community center to watch the 2nd half of Vincent's soccer game. And, then leaving David with the boys at the playground so I could go home to make dinner.

At 6:23pm, I got a call from David telling me he needed me to pick them up (they were going to walk home), and that we'll need to head to Children's Hospital. Tyler had climbed up a large rock and jumped off.

That phone call last 27 seconds. I turned everything cooking off, grabbed whatever food items I could see in front of me (3 rolls and 2 bananas) and a bottle of water, and rushed out the door.

It was about 3 feet that Tyler jumped. David was just a step away from catching him, but too late. He said he heard a "crack" sound as Tyler landed. It was because he was crying so much, and unable to put weight on his foot that we decided we needed to go to the ER.

When we got there, Tyler was so scared, his lips were quivering. He knew something was wrong with him. And, thankfully, Tyler took a few sips of water and a couple of bites of banana in the car, before we arrived, because once he was checked in, they said he was not to eat or drink anything until seen by the doctor and given the OK. Really?! But, it's his dinnertime!

Long story short, by 11pm, we were no longer in the waiting room, but still waiting for answers. I was able to get someone to watch Vincent so that he could go home to sleep. By midnight, Tyler had an X-ray with results: a spiral fracture of the bone in his left calf. He would need a splint and to be seen in 3-5 days to have a cast put on.

Here are David and Tyler, resting, while waiting for the splint.

At least, they gave him a Popsicle before we left, which really perked him up.

We got home around 2am.

2011 Mother's Day

Such a lovely day today. This Mother's Day, I asked David to let me take it easy. I really wanted to work on finishing our 2009 family photo album, so he took the boys out first thing in the morning, and then after their naps later in the day. I wasn't able to get as much as I wanted done in the album, but I had a nice, easy day.

The boys went out for breakfast at Top Pot Doughnuts and brought home flowers, a card, and a gift. I received the funniest card: Captain Jack Sparrow was on it, and he said a little something about "cleaning my poop deck!" My gift was a pair of sapphire stud earrings. I love them. And, here are my flowers.

Next, we headed to La Medusa for brunch. We got to see our friends, Julia and Gordon, there. I had this delicious Dungeness crab sandwich on a pretzel bagel. David had biscuits and gravy - off the hook! And, the kids shared scrambled eggs with cheese, a side of bacon, and bread with jam. They both ate pretty well. I also had a bloody Mary, which had a pickled asparagus sticking out of it. Tyler saw it and wanted it so much that he tried to climb out of his seat to get it. I gave him the tip, which didn't touch any alcohol, and when he ate it, he scrunched up his face, and puckered his lips. We asked if he liked it, and he nodded, still making the face, and said, "I like it." It was priceless, but I wasn't fast enough to get a picture. We did get these, though.
The boys' afternoon outing was to the community center. Tyler got whacked in the head by a swing, which gave him a little goose egg. They did some exploring around the water.
Here's a fun shot of Vincent climbing up a hill.

Vincent requested that we go to Target today. David needed to go there to get a cable and we needed to get birthday gifts anyway. So, we headed up north to The Ram for dinner, then went to Target. We got there just in time to get a table without having to wait.

We were surprised that it was so busy there. But, I reached back into my memory of my Chili's days, and yeah, Mother's Day was busy there, too. I mean, we were there tonight, right? Yeah, it's family friendly, they brew their own beer, and if it's one of your favorite restaurants, it makes sense to go there for Mother's Day. We went because I wasn't going to cook tonight, we had a coupon for a free burger, and it's next to Target. Cuz, yeah, I already had my special meal today.

Anyway, apparently, The Ram was surprised it was busy, too. Our server was totally in the weeds. Our meal took an hour and a half. We weren't taking our time. I'll give her credit for staying totally calm and sweet, but it was almost like she had no idea that she was so far gone. The manager knew they were getting their butts kicked. He had sweat glistening on his forehead, and that total "deer-in-headlights' look on his face. I can speak candidly about all this because I sympathize - I've been there, oh so many times. And, thank The Lord I was on the other side tonight.

This is how we tried to keep the kids entertained while we waited for our server.
Inside out hat, and Mom-made hat.
Happy Mother's Day!!

The Windemere Cup

Each year, David and I drive by Husky Stadium and see the sign up for the upcoming Windemere Cup, and he says to me, "I'd really like to go see that one day." Well, this year, he made it happen. Only, just with Tyler. And, really, it practically takes place in our front yard, so how could one of us not go? Vincent and I went to Chinese school. But, as we were crossing the bridge back into Seattle, the boat parade was going on. We were able to park the car and get out to watch a couple of minutes. The UW marching band was going by on a couple of boats, and Vincent enjoyed the music.
Here's Tyler watching boats row by. Don't worry, he was perfectly safe, even if it looks like he's right on the edge.

At Chinese school, Vincent's class did a special presentation for Mother's Day. They sang several Mandarin songs and gave us craft projects they've been working on. I loved watching Vincent sing. I forgot both my camera and my phone! Drats!

With me still being under the weather, we took things pretty easy the rest of the day. David, Tyler and I all napped. Vincent rested, but never actually fell asleep. This is tricky because by the end of the day, he gets tired earlier than Tyler. We decided to try putting him to bed first. It seemed to work okay (for tonight).

Here's pictures from this afternoon.

Tyler screaming and making a funny face while sitting on the toilet.

Tyler looking like a farmer, asking me to put on his shoes, then touching his head, saying he has on a hat.

Cheeseburgers for dinner. Can you guess which plate goes to which kid?
Look at the big burger! I wish I could say he ate it all, but he didn't. The actual burger patty was quite thin, but it was still a large sandwich.

I Am So Lucky

I am not feeling well today. I started getting sick yesterday, and this morning, I woke up pretty groggy. I tried my best to stick to my plans for the day, but I couldn't do it. I am so lucky to have David. He offered to stay home, and when I said he didn't need to, he offered to help me drive the kids to school and daycare. The plan was that I'd drop him off at work after the kids, but as we were on our way to his work, I felt pretty awful. So, we drove home, and David worked from here. He picked Vincent up from school and got him lunch. Then, he picked Tyler up and brought dinner home.

Unfortunately for him, when things are out of the ordinary, the boys become a little crazy. That's what they were tonight. Crazy wild animals. The good thing is that they are starting to become real buddies. We're a little scared they'll be ganging up on us very soon.
